State Department launches new website to counter disinformation
The State Department has launched an important new website that specifically helps people identify foreign misinformation and disinformation about the United States. It provides clues for journalists and news consumers to identify both innocently and maliciously false stories.
But there's a problem: an obsolete law prohibits the State Department from putting the "Identifying Misinformation" page on its main Website for American audiences.
So here it is: http://usinfo.state.gov/media/media_resources/misinformation.html.
The State Department's two-person office devoted to counter lies and distortions about the US around the world developed and maintains the site, which shows potential to become a major public diplomacy resource.
